Or how to read International Marine VIN Numbers!

For our example let's say the VIN on your new WWPotter 15 is:

HMSA3199K495

The serial number would read as follows:

HMS----International Marine's US Coast Guard Company Code.

A---------P-15 Model...........B----would be a P-19 Model.

3199-----Boat's Hull Number.

K---------November--Month built per chart below.

4----------Built in 1994.

95--------Model Year--International Marine changes model years on September 1st as mandated by the US Coast Guard.

Manufacture Month Chart:

Prior to 08-01-84

A---August..............G---Feb.

B---Sept................H---March

C---Oct.................I---April

D---Nov.................J---May

E---Dec.................K---June

F---Jan.................L---July

After 08-01-84

A---Jan.................G---July

B---Feb.................H---August

C---March...............I---Sept.

D---April...............J---Oct.

E---May.................K---Nov.

F---June................L---Dec.

Please note! There are many Potter HIN/VIN numbers that do no follow the above information! For example the HIN on my P-14 is HMSAO7751078. The boat was made in 1978, perhaps in October? However, there is not a "10" listed on either of the charts shown above.
