To Find Leaks On A WWP19

This is submitted to help with a common need of all boat owners and is not provided as a complaint. International Marine WWP19's is well made by hard working concerned employees that I have personally observed at the factory. I have talked to many different boat brand owners with some really bad water problems, far more than Potter owners. Give your boat the chance to prove her worth and she will.

  1. Forward Cowl Vent should face aft (insect screens are available).
  2. Check cockpit self-bailer hose and clamps aft between rear bunks add 3m adhesive sealer for underwater applications. Look for flat spots in the clamps too. Be sure the thru hull fitting is sealed well.
  3. Check the aft winter drain plug with o-ring. See that it is firmly screwed in clockwise a light coating of underwater flexible sealant could be added around the perimeter of this plug too.
  4. Check the sink thru hull fitting, the hose and clamps, add 3m adhesive sealer for underwater applications. Look for flat spots in the clamps too. Be sure the thru hull fitting is sealed well. In a starboard tack this fitting can take in water.
  5. Check the other internal sink drain hoses fittings and clamps look for flat spots in the clamps too.
  6. Check the fill hose connections and clamps on the fresh water, black bladder tank. If there is any heavy object placed on top of the tank it can cause a pressure leak, that is hardly ever noticed. A small internal tube will help to get this fitting clamp more firmly attached. Sealant will also help.
  7. Add a 2" diameter by about 26" long foam under the forward edge of the sliding top hatch, so that it rolls as the hatch slides. This will keep rain and bugs out.
  8. Check seal on aft hatch, directly aft of the weighted keel crank handle. Fit by using a self-stick window foam sealer or equal. If you can pull a playing card out easily add more sealer.
  9. Check the black foam seal under the top of the weighted keel. Look for breaks, voids, and lack of being compressed. Add or replace if there is any doubt of a good seal-taking place. Use a neoprene adhesive like the tubes sold through driver's shops. Masking tape helps to hold it in place while dries after 12 hours. Do not clamp pressure it until it is dry.
  10. Check all weather deck fitting add sealant if you feel it is necessary.
  11. Temperature differences between water and the hull can condense the air moisture; it can accumulate in the bilge at times. This can be resolved by placing moisture-absorbing pads at these low spots.
